About Us
Hats and Haberdashery was founded in 1994 by Cynthia Koeze. Cynthia was a milliner specializing in custom, one-of-a-kind hats she created and sold through her studio in the country. In an effort to increase her business, she opened a shop “in town” in May 1994. “In town” was and still is the quaint village of Suttons Bay, Michigan, located on the Grand Traverse Bay in beautiful Leelanau County, between Traverse City and Leland/Northport. The Leelanau peninsula extends into Lake Michigan and is known for its crystal clear lakes and streams, rolling hills and sand dunes and its scenic cherry farms and vineyards.
What began as a tiny shop selling only hats and accessories has grown into a lifestyle retail store occupying a much larger space. H and H offers unique womens clothing from American and European designers. Some featured women's clothing and apparel designers are: Cynthia Ashby, Rozae Nichols, Giselle Shepatin, Crea, Rundholz, Animale, Neesh and Skif sweaters.
Hats and Haberdashery is also known for its eclectic mix of hats, scarves, shoes, socks, handbags and jewelry. The accessory mix includes: Cydwoq shoes, Ozone socks, Matt & Nat and Hobo purses.
Finally, Hats and Haberdashery offers a one-of-a -kind mix of home accessories, bath and body care products, toys, gifts, ribbons and holiday decorations and collectibles. You’ll find Lampe Berger, European Soap Co., Party Partners, Roost, Chronicle Books, Goldbug Studio / Ashley Carter, Bethany Lowe Designs, Mokuba and Schylling Toys.
Hats and Haberdashery enjoys a year round customer base from Suttons Bay, Traverse City and surrounding counties, as well as a population of "summer people" and visitors to Michigan from all over the US and around the world. For years our “summer people” begged us to open another store in their part of the world. At last we have done it through the wonders of the internet! We have created a cyber-space shop that is “almost” like being here. We look forward to continuing to serve our current customers in this new way and we look forward to getting to know and serve many new customers, too.
